National Anti Bullying Week

This week is National Anti Bullying Week, the week is organised by the anti bullying aliance, the week will run from 15th until 19th November. The theme of the week is One Kind Word.

Kindness is more important than ever before. With isolation last year it has shown how little things can have serious impacts us all and our students. One Kind Word has been chosen as the theme for Anti – Bullying week because of this. There will be displays at both North Road and Lansdowne reception areas where students and staff can place there one kind word on a luggage label and then display it for others to see. These will all be collated and displayed.

BPCSU have put out at reception a display and we enourage you to put your one kind word on there. There is also drop in from the Wellbing team at North Road on Tuesday and Lansdowne on Thursday from 12.45 - 1.15pm.

Just a reminder of our expectations and your responsibilities:

  • Behave in a way that is respectful to others when in the local community
  • Keep the same standard of behaviour in the local community that is expected on campus
  • Remember to wear masks around the college and in local shops and businesses
  • Follow social distancing guidelines and abide by the rule of six, to protect yourself and the safety of others.

We hope you continue to be a good neighbour to our local community!

You can apply to be one of three positions: Mental Health Ambassador, Higher Education Ambassador or College Ambassador. The roles are important to the running of The College and are a great way to get involved and meet new people!

Book a digital space in the learning environments!

We know that remote working can be challenging and digital access for lessons or assignments may be difficult or impossible. We are pleased to let you know that we have set up some remote working digital access computer stations at both the North Road and Lansdowne campuses, to help any student aged 16-18 on a full-time programme in this situation.

If you don’t have easy digital access, a suitable device or if you find it difficult to find a quiet place to study from home, you can book a space in the Learning Environments on campus, by emailing LRCstaff@bpc.ac.uk or calling 01202 205803- make your study time really count!

If you have a USB headset or mobile phone headset, please bring it with you so that you can access audio content, otherwise we do have a limited supply available.

We look forward to welcoming you safely on-site. While you are here you can also obtain hot food in the college cafeteria and access support from our Health and Wellbeing Services.

Unless exempt you will need to wear a face covering while you are here, and all students must follow our COVID safety rules while in college.

Personal Safety - Tips!

Here are some very useful tips you can use to help stay safe:

Stay Alert - Awareness is key

it is essential that we all stay alert and stay safe to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Don't walk alone whenever possible, and carry a personal alarm

If you feel unsafe and would like a personal alarm, please come to the link to collect one (while stock lasts)

Try not to stay out too late

make sure to stay in well-lit areas

Be aware of your situation, if you feel like something is wrong then act on it

Trust your instincts

Charge your phone before going out

take a portable charger if possible so that you have a backup

Do not overshare on social media

Be very careful when making friends on social networking sites – not all are simple people busy with their own lives.

Make sure to check out some safeguarding apps which are very useful in regards to keeping you safe. Please find an example below, Hollyguard.

County Lines

What are County Lines?

Vulnerable people are used by criminals to courier drugs and money across the country. They take up residence in people's homes, in order to sell drugs to the local area. We are raising awareness of this, to encourage people to look for signs of this happening and to report it to the Police.
