C Cards
As a student of Bournemouth and Poole College you have access to our C-Card scheme. This gives you access to free condoms. This service is inclusive to all our students whatever your sexual orientation. Your sexual activity doesn’t need to be active, you may just be thinking about having sex and curious to learn more about how to protect yourself when entering into healthy sexual relationships.
The scheme is open to students who are already registered with a C-Card and for those
who are not. Either way, you will be required to have a 1-2-1 virtual catch up with our Student Health Officer, Amy. If you would rather speak to a male this can be arranged no problem – please just let us know and we will connect you with a trained member of the team). The reason we have a catch up with you is to ensure that you are safe and well informed about sexual health. Please remember that these catch up are non-judgemental and confidential (confidentiality may be broken in exceptional circumstances, please ask if you are unsure about what this means). The service is also free of charge, so you can keep yourselves safe without it costing you any money!
You can book a virtual appointment by scanning the QR code below
.
Once we have received your email Amy, Student Health Officer or a trained member of the team will contact you, run through some questions and provide you with the most appropriate provisions.
As mentioned our confidentiality policy upholds our duty of care. Any questions around confidentiality and when it may be breeched please ask.
Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are infections, which can be shared between people during
sexual contact; this could be orally, vaginal or anal sex. They can also be spread by sharing sex
toys or aids.
Anyone who is sexually active is at risk of catching or passing an STI. Part of your responsibility is
to engage in healthy sexual behaviours and use protection such as condoms (which are available
from the college via our C-Card scheme).
Does it matter if I get an STI?
Well, having an STI can be uncomfortable and cause irritation. It is also something that people
may find embarrassing to talk about or get tested for. That said, it is not uncommon for people
to have STIs and if you suspect that you have caught one you should get tested as soon as
possible – don’t delay! STIs can cause longer-term health problems like pain, infertility (and may
not always show symptoms). Remember, if you do test positive for an STI, with fast action you
can get the treatments you need and get back to enjoying healthy sexual relationships that are
good for you and your partner.
